Forest, heath, water make Drenthe the ideal vacation destination. Peace and space as a foundation, yet also close to major cities like Emmen, Assen, Groningen, and Germany is just a stone’s throw away. You can explore Drenthe by bike, on horseback, on foot, or with choppers.

The Bargerveen is a unique nature reserve of 2,100 hectares with vast peat forests. One of the last remaining raised bog areas in Northwest Europe. Wonderful for walking there or taking a bike ride in the area, perhaps with a lunch package prepared by us?
It’s also ideal for dogs – you can enjoy long walks. Dogs are allowed to run free and can often even take a dip. No one minds.
The ancient dolmens are also worth a visit, as well as the Grenszicht windmill.

Even in winter it’s enchantingly beautiful here.

Not to be forgotten: the Veenpark in Barger-Compascuum is an open-air museum. See, discover, do and learn in the largest museum in the Netherlands.

In Emmen you have a wide choice of restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks, and you can also shop – there’s certainly no shortage of stores in Emmen. Or how about a visit to the Atlas theater, the cinema, or the market on Friday?

The Brasserie - Events

The German border is 3 km away. Dining out in Germany and shopping is much cheaper than in the Netherlands. The German city of Haren is not far, just as far as Emmen. We love the “Steakhaus am Dom” or the Greek restaurant “Zorbas“.

In the summer, many festivals are organized in Emmen and the surrounding area such as the Barrel Food Truck festival, C’est la Vie, MM Culinair, Full Colour Festival, Gouden Pijl, Alles Kids Festival, Fable en Fantasy and the Children’s Cooking Festival. You can also participate in the Drenthe Cycling 4-day event that takes place once a year.

Those who love adventure can even book a helicopter flight with Heli Holland. And then there’s of course the famous Wildlands, a mixture of amusement park and zoo.
